Philippine stocks recorded a new milestone today, with the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closing above the 8,500 level for the first time in history.
After a two-day holiday on October 31 and November 1 which saw the market closed, the PSE resumed trading today, Thursday, November 2. At the market close, the PSEi breached the 8,500 barrier and closed at a new all-time high level of 8,516.02 points.
The PSEi jumped 150.76 points, an increase of +1.80% from its level in the last trading day.
Except for the Mining and Oil sector which collectively declined by -0.17%, all stock sectors ended on the positive. The Financials sector led the market with a +3.17% gain, followed by Holding Firms sector (up +1.91%) and Property sector (up +1.76%).
