Licensed Civil Engineers
Generally, Civil Engineers are tasked with the following responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and facilitate the construction and maintenance of infrastructures like roads, railways, airports, bridges, power plants, and water systems
- Design and Build strong, large structures and buildings according to specifications
- Creating detailed designs using a range of computer software and complex calculations
- Managing resources and budgets, schedules and materials
- Assessing the sustainability of projects and the impact to the environment
- Ensures that projects run smoothly and infrastructures are completed within time and budget
As a civil engineer, you can choose to either become a consulting engineer or a contracting engineer — or even do both simultaneously! Consulting engineers design works and projects, usually off-site from the construction area. Contracting engineers, meanwhile, take the designs, implement them on the site, and manage the construction of the structure.
Civil Engineering Licensure Exam
In the Philippines, to become a licensed civil engineer, an individual must:
- 1. Be a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in the Philippines; and
- 2. Pass the Civil Engineering Licensure Examination, which is administered by the Board of Civil Engineering under the supervision of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
The Civil Engineering Board Exam is conducted twice a year, in May and in November of every year.
