You’ve opened a Paypal account. There’s something on the internet that you want to buy but your Paypal balance is zero. You wonder how you can add funds to your account so you can start buying online.
How exactly do you fund a Paypal account?
There are only two ways.
[box type=”tick”]1. Through a US bank account[/box]
Link your US bank account to your Paypal account and once confirmed, you can add funds by transferring money from it. This feature can be found under My Account > Add Funds > Transfer Funds From a Bank Account in the United States.
Even if you have a non-US Paypal account, you can still add funds as long as the US bank account is in the same name as the Paypal account. Adding funds from a US bank account is free but takes 3-4 days before it gets credited in Paypal.
[box type=”tick”]2. Through a fund transfer from another Paypal account[/box]
This basically involves one Paypal account holder sending money to another Paypal account owner. Through the Send Money function, one person’s Paypal balance can be sent to your account. Once you’ve received the funds, you can now use these to purchase online.
Can I add funds to Paypal using a credit card?
This is currently not possible. Paypal does not allow funds to be transferred directly from your credit card to your Paypal balance.
So how can you use Paypal to buy online if your Paypal balance is zero? If your card is linked with Paypal, when you purchase something online, it will automatically deduct from your credit (or debit) card the transaction amount. If you have some balance on your Paypal account, the system will first deduct this then the remaining balance will be debited from your card.
