A recent discussion in the PMT Forum is about the issue of Paypal automatically upgrading Personal Accounts to Premier/Business status if more than $500 is received in one month.
According to sources, Paypal’s newest rule is that when a user receives more than the $500 receiving limit per month, the Personal Account is automatically upgraded to Premier or Business Account.
I went through Paypal’s FAQ and User Agreement but was not able to find details of this rule, however. The closest the User Agreement has is that payments beyond the $500 limit are placed on pending status and users have the option to upgrade their account — not automatically upgraded — if they want to receive the money.
Personal Account Receiving Limit. If you have a Personal Account, you may not receive more than $500.00 USD per month in funds when the sender selects as the category of purchase: (a) eBay item, (b) auction goods, or (c) goods-other. Once you have received $500.00 USD in a month, we will place subsequent payments in pending status, and you will be required to upgrade to a Premier or Business Account to accept the pending payments.
Can anyone confirm if this rule is now being implemented?
