My father called me up yesterday asking for help regarding his Social Security System (SSS) member contributions. Apparently, his records were missing six years of supposed SSS payments and he wants me to check with SSS about this.
Of course, I did not immediately rush to the SSS main office in East Avenue, Quezon City, knowing that there’s always a long queue of people there checking and verifying their own member contributions or inquiring about the status of their loans or claims.

United Nations (UN) jobs scam
Just this week, one of our colleagues almost fell victim to another one of those scam job offers. This time, though, the job position is not a nanny but a high-paying and lucrative post at the United Nations in New York.
The job ad was forwarded to him by a friend who saw the advertisement online. He replied to the ad and filled up an “interview form.” A few days later, he got the following email informing him that he got the job and that he is being offered a salary of more than $10,000 a month.

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) recently reported that the former president of a closed Legacy affiliate bank was arrested last week.
Romualdo Lugtu, former president of The Center Rural Bank in Alabang and former director and vice president for loans and credit of Banco Paranaque, was arrested on Thursday, January 28.
