Western Union’s Documentary Stamp Tax on remittances

The good news is that the additional 0.15% tax on all incoming overseas remittances was supposed to start May 30, 2008 but, until now, this has not been implemented.

The bad news is that the collection of this tax will start anytime soon.

Last week when I picked up my Google Adsense earnings from Western Union, they told me that the additional Documentary Stamp Tax (DST) tax on remittances will start “sometime this June.”

Philippine inflation rate may still rise

The country is still reeling from the effects of a 14-year high inflation rate of 11.4% but the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) warned that prices may still rise and inflation might peak during the 3rd quarter of 2008.
The good thing, though, is that according to the BSP, it may come down starting the last quarter of the year and may continue until 2009.

Philippines' inflation rate hits 11.4% — highest in 14 years!


Here’s one sad, bad news for all of us: the Philippines’ inflation rate in June 2008 jumped to 11.4% — the highest ever recorded in the last 14 years.
The figure was beyond the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines)’s forecast range of 10.4% to 11.2%.
It was the fastest pace in 14 years since May 1994 when inflation was recorded at 11.5%.
