New scam using fake Paypal email

A Pinoy Money Talk (PMT) member emailed me yesterday to ask whether a Paypal transaction she is planning to enter into is a scam or not.

Apparently, some guy supposedly from the UK contacted her asking help to transfer Paypal funds. The guy claims he plans to visit the Philippines and needs help moving funds to the country.

This should already raise a red flag. Never, ever agree to such transactions because you may unwittingly be a conspirator to money laundering. A suspiciously large amount being withdrawn to a Philippine bank account raises the bank’s alarm and if you could not properly explain how you got the amount and why you are transferring money, you may be charged under the country’s Anti-Money Laundering Law.

If you’re Microsoft Corporation, what do you do to challenge Google’s dominance in the online advertising industry?
You acquire another search engine, albeit struggling, company such as Yahoo!.
That seems to be Microsoft’s plan when it submitted an unsolicited takeover bid of $44.6 billion.
The offer of $31 per share is a 62% premium to Yahoo! stock’s closing price on Thursday. Yahoo climbed $10.40 a share, or 54%, to $29.58 in premarket trading after the announcement.

Receive Google Adsense PIN once you’ve earned $10

Good news to Google Adsense publishers who still have not earned $50:

You can now receive the Adsense PIN (Personal Identification Number) after you’ve earned $10.

Previously, Google mails the PIN to a publisher whose balance has reached $50. Adsense announced just now that they are lowering this threshold to $10. This gives publishers enough time to get themselves verified, and to be able to quickly withdraw their earnings once they have reached $100.

Why is the PIN important? Does the PIN have a validity period? I still have not received my PIN after a few months!

For answers to these PIN-related issues, visit our Google Adsense PIN FAQ page here.

For those wondering what the Adsense PIN mailer looks like this, here’s a screenshot of the front and back side of the mailer.

Withdraw PayPal to bank accounts in Philippines

Pinoy Money Talk is one of the first, probably the very first, to break this news to the blogosphere but expect other sites and blogs to write about this without giving us credit although they got the news from us. LOL.

Anyway, brace yourself:

Effective today, PayPal started allowing users in the Philippines to withdraw funds directly to local bank accounts.
