Tips to Pass the Midwives Board Exam
Do you want some tips to help you pass the Board Licensure Exam for Midwives?
Without a doubt, passing the Board Exam requires tons of preparation, hard work, persistence, and determination. You will surely do your part. You will study long hours, read a lot of books, and answer hundreds of pages of reviewers.
But for you to pass or to be a topnotcher with above-average scores, you probably would want to hear useful tips straight from those who already passed the boards? Here’s our collection of the best insights and tips from Midwifery passers and topnotchers themselves so you can be a top scorer in the exam too!
Tip #1: Read your notes and reviewers at least 3 to 5 times.
When you read for the first time, the goal is to understand. The second time, your goal should be to improve recall. Read for the third time to help you summarize. Now, for the fourth time, read so you can memorize concepts. Finally, read for the fifth time, so that the learnings become a part of you already that even without the book, you’ll know the Midwifery Exam concepts by heart.
Tip #2: Create a review calendar.
Prepare a calendar that will show a schedule of what you should have already reviewed and by when. This helps you manage all the concepts that you need to review, so you won’t cram when it’s already close to the exam date.
You can be flexible and you can adjust your schedule depending on the actual completion of your review. If you find yourself lagging, either study faster or allot more hours per day to review. If you see yourself getting ahead of schedule, use the additional free time to re-read and review previous concepts. (Check back our Tip #1 on reading your notes and reviewers at least 3 to 5 times.)
Tip #3: Avoid cramming.
Do not cram the review because it’s not kind to you and your body. You probably don’t realize it but cramming is one of the worst harassments that you can possibly inflict on yourself. Stressing yourself won’t be good for you in the long run.
Some people may argue that cramming helps them focus and review more effectively. That’s probably the case for some, but longer preparation for the exam has also been proven as a more effective method. Another benefit is that by avoiding cramming, you reduce stress and anxiety on yourself since you won’t find yourself inundated with a lot of books and reviewers to study days or weeks before the exam.
Tip #4: Keep motivating yourself.
Always tell yourself that you need to pass the examination. Without a doubt, your future is at stake here, so give your 100% and try your best to pass the exam on your first take. When you feel sad or disheartened, take a breather and remind yourself that there are people who care for you and can inspire you to continue, like your family, friends, loved ones, and also God.
I heard from a Midwife exam topnotcher that she posted several handwritten notes on her bedroom wall to console herself from the fact that she put herself on “self-exile” just to pass the exam. The motivational notes and quotes distracted her from the idea that she was no longer watching movies or TV shows, meeting friends, or even checking Facebook or social media. In the end, that sacrifice paid off.
Tip #5: Ask for help.
If you find difficulty understanding a concept, ask your friends who already took the exam or your friends or even former professors to explain the concepts to you. You might also want to join Facebook groups or forums focused on the Midwife Board Exam. Getting suggestions from other people can also unearth useful tips, tricks, and techniques that they used that helped them pass the exam. It’s free and helpful advice so why not do it?

PRC Room Assignments: Midwife Board Exam (Apr 2020)
If you see a “Now Available!” note beside the exam venue, it means the PRC already released the list for that province or city and you may now view the room assignment. If it is not yet available, the PRC is still finalizing the school and classroom details. We will update this post once the official Room Assignments are released.
Here are additional useful tips we suggest you follow before the exam.
1. You’ll notice that even in just one school, several buildings and classrooms will be used as testing centers. To make sure that you proceed to the correct location, write down the exact Building, Classroom, and Seat Number assigned to you on a piece of paper and bring this with you on the exam day so you can easily find your room assignment.
2. Prior to the actual day of the board exam, research the address of the school or venue where you’ll be taking the exam. Find out the actual location using Google Maps or a guide map to determine how to get there.
3. Better yet, try visiting the venue a few days before the board exam! Doing so will help you discover the best transportation or routes to take. If you simulate going to the venue beforehand, you’ll also have an idea how long it will take you to reach the exam center from your place. This allows you to change your transportation plans, if needed.
4. On the day of the exam, don’t be late! According to the PRC, examinees who will be late will NOT BE ALLOWED to take the exam. We suggest you arrive at the venue at least one (1) hour before the start of the exam. This gives you enough time to locate the building, classroom, and seat number assigned to you.
What happens if you did not show up or weren’t able to take the boards? The answer is in this article: I registered but I did not take the board exam.
