Do you want to impart knowledge to Filipinos, mold their minds, and ultimately change lives? A career in teaching may help you achieve that goal.
Teaching, without a doubt, is one of the noble professions out there and although this career may not pay a lot compared to other professions, the non-monetary and psychological rewards of making positive impact to millions of Filipinos might be enough to pursue this profession.
Licensed Teachers in the Philippines
The tasks of a Licensed Teacher in the Philippines span a variety of responsibilities, including:
- delivering effective teaching and learning programs for students
- developing lesson plans and instructional materials
- evaluating students’ academic and social growth
- establishing and enforcing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order in the classroom
- preparing progress reports and communicating with parents to discuss students’ progress
- encouraging and supporting students in joining extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests
In the Philippines, aspiring teachers may choose to enroll and specialize in Elementary Education or Secondary Education.
Before the end of the Bachelor in Elementary or Secondary Education course, students are required to undergo Practice Teaching as culmination of the teacher training process. In this requirement, student-teachers are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skill in actual classes, in preparation for being an actual teacher. The number of hours required to finish the Practice Teaching practicum vary per school.
Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET)
To finally become a licensed teacher, an individual must graduate with a degree in Bachelor in Education (Elementary or Secondary Education) and successfully pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).
The LET is conducted by the Board of Professional Teachers under the supervision of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). The LET, also called LEPT or Licensure Exam for Professional Teachers, is conducted twice a year in the Philippines, during the months of March and September.
You may view below the school performance during previous LET exams in the country.
